Gregory F. Roberts – Chief Executive Officer
Greg Roberts – Visionary, Entrepreneur, Philanthropist and currently the CEO of Mary Brown’s Inc. and Chairman & President of P.I. Enterprises.
In 1998, Greg set out on an entrepreneurial mission with nothing but a big dream, four staff, small personal loans and supplier credit to start his first business in Newfoundland, Pilley’s Island Enterprises Limited. He has diligently worked to grow the company, and through his business savvy, expertise and leadership, sixteen years later his dream has exploded into a diverse organization made up of service, retail, real estate and successful hospitality companies with over 2000 people employed by P.I. Enterprises Group.
Greg acquired Mary Brown’s Inc. in February 2007 and is the company’s sole shareholder. Since acquiring the business, Greg has assumed the role of CEO. In this capacity, his primary responsibility is the development of the overall strategy of Mary Brown’s Inc. Greg is also a director with a number of private and public companies, we well as a Governor with the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council.
Greg has been honoured with a number of industry and entrepreneurial awards, including but not limited to:
- BDC’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for P.I. Enterprises Group (2002)
- Chartered Accountants Early Achievement Award (2007)
- The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Atlantic Region Services (2008)
- Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 Award (2010)
Greg is a Chartered Accountant and CPA. He is also a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland’s Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) program and continues to attend the Executive Studies Program at Harvard Business School to remain abreast of the latest in organizational and leadership change and management.
Tony Samuelson – Vice President, Guest Experience
Tony brings to the team a wealth of knowledge and experience in many dimensions of the restaurant business. His combined over 30-year food service management and proprietor history, 15 of which have been with Mary Brown's Famous Chicken & Taters, enable him to understand how best to operate multiple aspects of the Guest Experience, both locally and in Foreign markets.
Tony’s career started out with a steak house chain, where he traveled the Maritimes region as a "trouble shooter", quickly turning problem operations around both in terms of Customer Service and profitability. At 23, Tony became the youngest "Executive General Manager" in that company, successfully managing multi-million dollar operations for 8 years.
Moving on to the next challenge, Tony joined with a multi-unit Mary Brown’s Franchisee as an Area Manager. Sharing his expertise and continuing to demonstrate his capability in the Operations arena, he not only managed a group of stores, but this entity was recognized as one of the most successful franchised group of stores in the chain with many various sales and achievement awards.
Most recently, as the General Manager for the Parent company P.I. Enterprises Limited, Tony has organized and overseen high volume and profitable operations in the Mary Brown’s corporate stores. This group of stores contributes an average of 1.6MM in unit volume and have equally successfully demonstrated the earning potential in our system today.
Tony’s true passion is with the Mary Brown’s brand, product, culture and overall Guest Experience.
Safiah Arooz - Director of Franchise Development
Safiah has a strong background in Business Development and Franchising, managing the end-to-end process for new Franchisees throughout her career – from interviewing all the way through to ownership. She also managed all existing Franchisees in her former role at New York Fries and South St. Burger Co., where she worked for over 13 years, garnering valuable insights into the QSR industry. Safiah holds a Bachelors of Commerce degree from Ryerson University, Toronto and also has a Hotel Management diploma from George Brown College.
